Floating Park

At Royal Victoria Dock West, the Floating Park has been identified as one of the three Priority Projects set out in the Vision.

The Floating Park is about bringing nature, people and water closer together, transforming part of the historic dock into a greener, calmer and more welcoming public place.

The Floating Park complements the proposed Floating Wellness and Floating Residential projects. Together, they form a connected waterside environment that balances activity with quiet moments, and everyday use with long-term environmental benefit.

A greener dock, for people and nature

The Floating Park will enhance biodiversity across the dock, introducing new habitats that support wildlife. This includes floating planting, habitat structures and nature-based design, all of which will help improve air and water quality, encourage biodiversity, and create a more resilient ecosystem.

Crucially, it increases access to nature in a part of London where green space is limited. The park provides places for people to unwind and reconnect with nature and one another, supporting wellbeing, mental health and everyday enjoyment of the water.

Designed to work with the dock and the city

This is not a standalone gesture, but part of a long-term, carefully phased approach to regeneration. The Floating Park is designed to work alongside active uses on the water, seasonal events, and the everyday life of the dock, preserving its openness while making it more inviting and comfortable year-round.

By introducing shade, shelter and greenery, the park also supports climate resilience, helping the dock adapt to hotter summers, manage flood risk, and remain a welcoming public space as the climate changes.

A place to connect

The Floating Park is a social space, creating new opportunities for people to meet, spend time together, and feel at home by the water. As the Vision for Royal Victoria Dock West progresses, the Floating Park will play a key role in shaping the dock as London’s next major waterside destination: open, inclusive and rooted in everyday use.

Next steps

The Floating Park is one of three Priority Projects being taken forward as part of the Royal Victoria Dock West Vision, alongside Floating Wellness and Floating Residential.

All three projects are being developed together within a single, long-term framework, guided by the same design principles, environmental standards and commitments to public access, safety and quality. This ensures that each project supports the others, and that the dock evolves as a coherent, well-balanced public place.

In early 2026, elements of the Park will be written into project briefs for Wellness and Residential, while the funding strategy for a more substantial stand-alone park is developed further with advisers.
